Date, exact time of birth and place — the time to the minute is what makes the chart usable.
Astrology · Personal Astrology
Career Astrology reads the tenth house, its lord, and the running dasha for what they indicate about work — the kind of role that suits the chart, and the periods when a change is better supported. It describes tendency and timing; it does not choose between two offers for you.

How it works
Date, exact time of birth and place — the time to the minute is what makes the chart usable.
Your Janma Kundali, divisional charts, running dasha and current gochara are read together.
A written answer to the question you asked, with the placements it rests on stated plainly.
A call with the astrologer to go over the reading and the remedies, if you want one.
Guide
People ask during a job change, a prolonged search, a decision about further study, or when weighing a move into independent work.
Astrologers differ on method — ayanamsa, dasha system and house division are all matters on which respected traditions disagree. A reading states which conventions it follows, and describes tendency and timing rather than settling a decision for you.

Sources
The first list is what published practice describes consistently. The second is where schools, regions and sampradayams legitimately differ — and where the astrologer’s own tradition decides the answer rather than a general rule.
In plain terms
Career Astrology reads three houses together — the tenth for the work itself, the sixth for employment and service, the second for what the work returns — and then opens the Dasamsa, the divisional chart classical texts hold specifically for profession. What it describes is the character of work a chart inclines towards and the periods that support a change. What it does not do is choose between two offers; that involves salary, location and family, none of which is in the chart.

Related consultations
Several questions arrive at this page that belong to a neighbouring reading. Each of these is a separate consultation with its own houses, and asking it here gets a shallower answer than asking it there.
Ownership is a seventh-bhava matter, not a tenth-bhava one, and the business reading works from the seventh and the eleventh with Mercury as karaka.
Business Astrology →A stream, a qualification or higher study sits in the fourth, fifth and ninth, with Mercury and Jupiter — a different set of houses from the ones a career reading opens.
Education Astrology →Whether the chart supports residence away from the birthplace is the twelfth and the ninth, read with Rahu. Career says whether the work suits you; this says whether the move does.
Foreign Travel Astrology →Income, savings and debt are the second, eleventh and sixth, read as a finance question. The career reading touches the second; the finance reading opens it.
Finance Astrology →You know what you want to do and only want to know when. The dasha reading takes the timing question on its own, across the whole sequence.
Dasha Analysis →The decision is made and the question is the day and hour to begin. That is a muhurtham, cast forward from the panchangam rather than read back from the chart.

| What the chart indicates | What it leaves to you | |
|---|---|---|
| The kind of work | Independent or institutional, technical or people-facing, steady or variable — from the tenth, its lord and the D-10. | Which named role, in which named company. |
| Employed or on your own | What the sixth, the seventh and the tenth indicate about working under someone versus for yourself. | Whether a particular venture is commercially sound. |
| When to move | Which dasha and bhukti periods in the window support a change, and which counsel waiting. | Whether the offer in front of you is worth taking. |
| A stalled stretch | Whether the running period is one classical practice associates with slow progress, and when it ends. | What is wrong in the workplace, which is not in any chart. |
| Earnings | What the second bhava and its lord indicate about the return on the work. | A salary figure. The chart carries no numbers. |
A reading answers the left column with reasons shown. Everything in the right column is yours, and an astrologer who reaches across into it is asserting more than the method supports.

Come prepared
Bring the actual decision, not the topic — a chart answers a question far better than a heading. These are the questions that make a career reading checkable.
Suitability
A chart does not know your employer, your salary or the offer letter in your hand. It indicates the character of work a life inclines towards and the periods that support a change, and it does that from houses and a divisional chart whose significations were written for trades that no longer exist. Take the reading as one input into a decision that also needs your own judgement and, where money or contracts are involved, professional advice.
Before you book
Do not act on a reading alone where a decision also needs professional advice — medical, legal or financial. A consultation is one input, and it is offered as one.

Common questions
No, and an astrologer who names one is going beyond what the method supports. A chart indicates the character of work it inclines towards — independent or institutional, technical or people-facing, steady or variable — and the periods that support a change. Choosing between two named offers involves salary, location, family and your own judgement, none of which is in the chart.
It shows what the tenth and seventh houses and their lords indicate about working independently versus in an organisation, and which dasha periods support a change of that kind. It says nothing about whether a specific business idea is sound, which is a commercial question.
It will say what the running dasha and the transits over the tenth house indicate about the period, and whether that period is one classical practice associates with slow progress. That is an explanation of timing, not a diagnosis of a workplace.
Say so rather than estimating. The lagna moves through a full sign in roughly two hours and every divisional chart is computed from the same degrees, so a guessed time propagates an error through the whole reading. Where the time is genuinely unknown the standard approach is rectification — narrowing it by testing candidate lagnas against events that have already happened.
