Skanda Shasti Pooja in Hyderabad
Skanda Shasti Pooja is a devotional observance associated with Shashti Tithi and the worship of Lord Subrahmanya. A family may observe a monthly Shashti or plan a Pooja during the annual Skanda Shasti festival.
The ceremony may include Sankalpam, deity worship, Archana, agreed mantra or Stotram recitation, Naivedyam and Harathi, guided by an experienced Purohit.

What Is Skanda Shasti Pooja?
Skanda Shasti Pooja is worship of Lord Subrahmanya connected with Shashti, the sixth lunar day. Families may observe it through prayer, Archana, recitation, offerings or fasting according to their tradition.
A Purohit-led ceremony at home can be arranged for an agreed date and format. Homam and Abhishekam are separate rituals unless specifically included.
The exact Vidhanam depends on the family's Sampradayam, the occasion and the selected package. If your family observes fasting, visits a temple or recites a particular prayer, share those details before booking so the home Pooja can be planned accordingly.
Why Is Skanda Shasti Observed?
Families may observe Skanda Shasti to:
- Worship Lord Subrahmanya with devotion and gratitude
- Continue a family or regional Shashti tradition
- Mark the annual Skanda Shasti festival
- Pray for courage, clarity and disciplined action
- Undertake a personal Sankalpam
- Participate in prayer and recitation as a family
These are devotional intentions. It is not a guaranteed remedy for health, marriage, financial or astrological concerns.
If someone has recommended it for a specific horoscope-related reason, ask them to explain the concern and the proposed ritual before booking.
Traditional Significance of Lord Skanda
Lord Skanda is also worshipped as Subrahmanya, Kartikeya, Kumara, Shanmukha and Murugan.
His Vel is traditionally associated with wisdom and the overcoming of ignorance. Families may use different names, prayers and offerings according to their language, region and Sampradayam.
For some devotees, Skanda Shasti is a time for prayer, restraint and reflection. Others observe it through temple worship or a family Pooja.
The form of observance need not be identical across households.
Who Can Arrange Skanda Shasti Pooja?
The Pooja may be arranged by an individual devotee or a family observing Shashti.
It may suit those who want a Purohit to guide the Sankalpam and worship at home, or who wish to continue a practice followed by their elders.
When enquiring, share whether this is a monthly Shashti observance, part of the annual festival or a family Sankalpam. The Purohit may request participants' names, Gotram and Nakshatram where known.
Mention any details you do not have rather than guessing them.
When Is Skanda Shasti Pooja Performed?
Skanda Shasti Pooja may be planned for a monthly Shashti or during the annual Skanda Shasti observance.
A monthly Shashti and the annual festival are not the same booking occasion, so tell Anugraha Siddhi which one your family intends to observe.
The applicable date depends on the local Panchangam, Tithi and the family's tradition. Festival practices can also differ by region. Check the Panchangam and confirm the final date and timing with the Purohit before making arrangements.
How Is Skanda Shasti Pooja Performed?
The sequence depends on the agreed Vidhanam. A home Pooja may include the following stages:
Preparation of the Pooja Area
A clean place is prepared for the image or idol of Lord Subrahmanya. The lamp, flowers, offerings and other materials confirmed by the Purohit are kept ready.
Sankalpam and Preliminary Prayers
The participants state the devotional purpose of the ceremony. Preliminary prayers, including Ganapathi Pooja where followed, are performed according to the agreed tradition.
Worship of Lord Subrahmanya
The Purohit guides the deity worship and Archana using the agreed names, flowers and offerings. Practices may differ between families and regional traditions.
Mantra or Stotram Recitation
The family may request an appropriate Subrahmanya mantra, Namavali or Stotram. Confirm the text, language guidance and number of recitations beforehand; a longer Parayanam is not automatically included.
Naivedyam and Harathi
The agreed food offering is presented, followed by concluding prayers and Harathi. The family can then receive Prasadam according to its custom.
Subrahmanya Homam, Abhishekam, Japam or another additional ritual is not automatically included in Skanda Shasti Pooja. Discuss any additions before confirming the package.
Skanda Shasti Pooja and Related Rituals
These services may all involve Lord Subrahmanya, but they are arranged differently.
| Ceremony | Main focus |
|---|---|
| Skanda Shasti Pooja | Worship connected with a Shashti observance |
| Subrahmanya Swamy Pooja | Worship of Lord Subrahmanya for an agreed occasion, which need not be Shashti |
| Subrahmanya Homam | Offerings into a sacred fire with prescribed prayers |
| Subrahmanya Abhishekam | Ceremonial bathing of a suitable deity idol |
| Subrahmanya Japam | Recitation of an agreed mantra for a specified count |
If the date is central to your family's observance, specify Skanda Shasti Pooja when enquiring. If you want worship on another occasion, ask about Subrahmanya Swamy Pooja instead. A Subrahmanya Homam requires separate arrangements, including a suitable space for the fire.
Fasting and Family Traditions
Some devotees observe a fast or follow a Satvik diet for Shashti. Others pray without fasting.
There is no universal fasting rule that should be imposed on every participant in a home Pooja. Follow a practice suitable for your family and health needs.
Children, pregnant women, older participants and anyone with a medical condition should give priority to appropriate food, hydration and medical advice. Ask the conducting Purohit about any preparation specific to the agreed ceremony.

Which date should our family choose?
Check the local Shashti Tithi and explain whether you mean a monthly or annual observance. Confirm the final date with the Purohit using the Panchangam and your family tradition.
Is Subrahmanya Homam included?
No Homam should be assumed to be included. It is a separate fire ritual that must be requested and confirmed with its venue, materials and package details.
Can Abhishekam or Japam be added?
You can ask about additional rituals when enquiring. Their suitability, availability, duration, materials and cost must be confirmed separately.
Which prayers are recited?
The Purohit and family can agree on the appropriate mantra, Namavali or Stotram for the chosen Vidhanam. Mention a specific family prayer or longer recitation before booking.

Can we request Telugu or English guidance?
Share your preference when enquiring. Guidance in Telugu or English is subject to the selected service, date and Purohit availability.
Is Skanda Shasti Pooja a guaranteed remedy for Sarpa Dosha?
No. Do not select a ritual solely on a broad dosha claim. If an astrological concern prompted the enquiry, ask for the stated concern and recommendation to be explained before choosing a ceremony.
