How these rasi phalalu are made

How are today's rasi phalalu calculated? (నేటి రాశి ఫలాలు ఎలా లెక్కిస్తారు?)

From the actual positions of the nine grahas at sunrise in Hyderabad, in the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsa. Each graha's house is counted from your janma rasi and read against the classical gochara results in Phaladeepika: the Moon's house carries the day, and the other eight grahas set the background. Nothing is written by hand for the day, so the reading changes exactly when the sky does.

Which rasi should I read — my Moon sign or my Sun sign?

Your Moon sign, the janma rasi: the sign the Moon occupied when you were born. Telugu rasi phalalu are always read from it. If you know your janma nakshatra, the table on this page gives the rasi; otherwise a birth chart settles it.

What is Chandrashtama? (చంద్రాష్టమం అంటే ఏమిటి?)

The roughly two and a quarter days each month when the transiting Moon is in the 8th house from your janma rasi. It is traditionally kept free of new beginnings, signatures, long travel and arguments. Each rasi page gives the exact start and end times.

What is tarabalam?

The strength of the day's nakshatra counted from your own birth nakshatra, in nine groups (taras). Sampat, Kshema, Sadhana, Mitra and Parama Mitra are favourable; Janma, Vipat, Pratyak and Naidhana are not. Because a rasi holds two or three nakshatras, each rasi page shows the tara for each of them.

When do the readings change?

Today's reading turns over at midnight IST and is read from the next sunrise. The weekly reading runs Sunday to Saturday, the monthly reading follows the calendar month, and the yearly reading covers the calendar year with every Guru, Shani and Rahu–Ketu transit dated.

Why can two websites give different rasi phalalu for the same day?

Publications weigh different things — some the Moon, some the running Guru or Shani transit, some an astrologer's judgement — and some use Western Sun signs. This page states its method: the sidereal Moon sign, the classical gochara tables with vedha, and the day's sunrise.

Sources and practice notes

A rasi reading is written for a sign, not for a person, and which sign it addresses depends on a convention worth stating plainly. This note separates what is consistently described in published practice from what genuinely varies, and states plainly which parts are Anugraha Siddhi’s recommendation rather than a rule.

Consistently described

Points on which published practice broadly agrees.

  • Telugu rasi phalalu are read against the janma rasi — the sign the Moon occupied at birth — and not against the Sun sign used in Western horoscope columns.
  • Indian practice is sidereal, so the rasi computed here will often differ from the sign a Western horoscope would assign to the same birth date.
  • A rasi reading applies to everyone born under that Moon sign, which is roughly a twelfth of the population, and it cannot account for an individual chart.

Varies by tradition

Real differences between families, regions and sampradayams — not errors.

  • Publications differ in what they weigh — some follow the Moon's daily transit, others the running dasha or a specific transit such as Guru or Shani — so two readings for the same rasi and day can disagree.
  • Sidereal and tropical reckonings assign different signs to the same birth, which is the usual reason a reader finds two different answers to what their sign is.
  • Daily, weekly, monthly and yearly readings are written against different spans and are not summaries of one another.
