What a yearly reading for Vrischika rests on
The reading takes Vrischika as the reference sign, places the transiting grahas in the houses counted from it, and weights them by the strength of Kuja — the rasi lord — at the time. Over a year, the Guru and Shani transits set the shape and the eclipse periods mark the turning points.
A rasi reading applies to everyone born with the Moon in Vrischika — roughly a twelfth of everyone. It is a useful weather report, not a forecast for your life. What makes it specific is your own chart: the ascendant, the running dasha, and which houses the transiting grahas actually touch for you.
The sign itself
Vrischika and Kuja
A fixed water sign. Classical descriptions give it depth and reserve — what is held rather than shown — and it is the sign in which the Moon is debilitated, which is why a reading pays particular attention to the Moon's condition here.
Kuja rules Vrischika, and Ketu is given co-lordship in some traditions. Kuja also owns Mesha; the two signs share a lord but not a quality, so the same Kuja condition is read as initiative in Mesha and as persistence in Vrischika.

- Sade Sati runs for Vrischika while Shani transits Tula, Vrischika and Dhanussu — the 12th, 1st and 2nd from the rasi, at roughly two and a half years each.
- Kantaka and Ashtama Shani are Shani in Kumbha and Mithuna — the 4th and 8th from Vrischika. These are frequently reported as Sade Sati and are not.
- Guru transiting Dhanussu, Meena, Vrishabha, Karkataka or Kanya — the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th from Vrischika — is the reckoning behind the annual guru peyarchi readings.
A transit is read against your own chart rather than on its own, and a difficult transit in a supportive dasha is not read the same way as the same transit in an unsupportive one. Shani being exalted in Tula and debilitated in Mesha changes the reading again.
