Astrology · Matching
Marriage Compatibility is the fuller reading behind a match: both charts read individually, then against each other for temperament, family circumstances and the timing each chart indicates. It goes beyond the guna score to the reasoning underneath it.

How it works
Date, exact time of birth and place — the time to the minute is what makes the chart usable.
Your Janma Kundali, divisional charts, running dasha and current gochara are read together.
A written answer to the question you asked, with the placements it rests on stated plainly.
A call with the astrologer to go over the reading and the remedies, if you want one.
Guide
It is asked for when a match is being seriously considered, or when a guna score has come out low and the family wants to know what it actually reflects.
Astrologers differ on method — ayanamsa, dasha system and house division are all matters on which respected traditions disagree. A reading states which conventions it follows, and describes tendency and timing rather than settling a decision for you.

Sources
The first list is what published practice describes consistently. The second is where schools, regions and sampradayams legitimately differ — and where the astrologer’s own tradition decides the answer rather than a general rule.
In plain terms
Marriage Compatibility is the reading behind a match rather than the match itself. Both charts are read individually first — each seventh house, each Navamsa, each dasha sequence — and only then against each other, for temperament through Gana and Graha Maitri, for family circumstances, and for what each chart indicates about timing. It is the reading families ask for when a koota score has come back and they want to know what it reflects, or when they want more than a number before a decision is made.

Related consultations
This reading sits between the bare score and the two individual charts. The readings around it are each one step narrower or wider.
The eight kootas worked through and totalled, with the points shown. Narrower than this reading and the right one when a family wants to see how a number was built.
Guna Milan →Score, poruthams, doshas, both seventh houses — the standard matching consultation. This reading is the depth behind it.
Kundali Matching →What each chart says about marriage on its own — the seventh, the Navamsa, the karakas — read as a marriage question rather than a compatibility one.
Marriage Astrology →If one chart has been called Manglik, that is a specific rule with specific cancellations, and it is read on its own before it is allowed to decide anything.
Kuja Dosha / Manglik Analysis →Eight points, the largest block, and its own set of exceptions. Worth reading alone before a match is set aside on it.
Nadi Dosha Analysis →The compatibility is read and the families have decided. The wedding time is a muhurtham, cast forward against both charts.
Marriage Muhurtham →Number and reasoning
| In the guna score | Added by a compatibility reading | |
|---|---|---|
| Temperament | Gana and Graha Maitri — eleven points between them, computed from the birth stars and moon signs. | The Moon and the lagna of each chart read in full, and the two set against each other. |
| Marriage itself | Nothing. No koota reads a seventh house. | Each seventh bhava and its lord, and each Navamsa, read separately and then together. |
| Timing | Nothing. The kootas have no time in them. | Both dasha sequences side by side, and what each indicates about the period a marriage would fall in. |
| Family | Nothing. | The second and fourth of each chart — the households each comes from and the one they form. |
| Doshas | Nadi and Bhakoot as points lost. | Kuja, nadi and the rest read as rules, with their cancellations checked. |
Guna milan is arithmetic from two birth stars and two moon signs. Everything in the right column comes from the rest of the two charts and never reaches the score — which is why two matches on the same total can be nothing alike.

Come prepared
A compatibility reading is the one most likely to be reduced to the score it was meant to explain. These keep the reasoning in view.
Suitability
This is the reading that most needs the other person's chart, and that chart should be given with their knowledge and agreement. What comes back is reasoning, not a verdict: two charts read against each other for tendency and timing, with the honest limit that no chart speaks to consent, to how two people talk to each other, or to whether either of them wants this. The decision is the families' and the two people's; the astrology is one voice in it.
Before you book
Do not act on a reading alone where a decision also needs professional advice — medical, legal or financial. A consultation is one input, and it is offered as one.

Common questions
Kundali Matching runs the koota or porutham system and reports what it gives. This reads both charts in full — the seventh houses, both Navamsas and both dasha sequences — and explains what the score reflects. Families usually come to this one when a score has raised a question they want understood rather than repeated.
Then this is the reading that is actually useful, because it says what the objection rests on rather than restating the number. Whether to proceed is the family's decision and the reading should not be presented as either permission or prohibition.
Partly. The kootas need only the birth star and moon sign, which are less time-sensitive than the lagna. But the seventh house and the Navamsa comparison — the substance of this reading — both need an accurate time for each chart.
