A fixed earth sign. The classical attribution is persistence and attachment to what is already held — steadiness that reads as patience in a good period and as reluctance to move in a difficult one.
Shukra rules Vrishabha and is the karaka for comfort, relationships and material ease. Because Shukra also owns Tula, a Shukra period or transit is read against both signs; where Shukra is combust or afflicted, the sign's usual steadiness is read as harder to rely on.

- Sade Sati runs for Vrishabha while Shani transits Mesha, Vrishabha and Mithuna — the 12th, 1st and 2nd from the rasi, at roughly two and a half years each.
- Kantaka and Ashtama Shani are Shani in Simha and Dhanussu — the 4th and 8th from Vrishabha. These are frequently reported as Sade Sati and are not.
- Guru transiting Mithuna, Kanya, Vrischika, Makara or Meena — the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th from Vrishabha — is the reckoning behind the annual guru peyarchi readings.
A transit is read against your own chart rather than on its own, and a difficult transit in a supportive dasha is not read the same way as the same transit in an unsupportive one. Shani being exalted in Tula and debilitated in Mesha changes the reading again.
